Depression is a complex complicated thing.
Nothing simple about it.
If it were simple I would expect it to be something else entirely.
Not something to hide
Or to fear
Or to question
Is it getting worse or better.
There would be no need to ask family – how am I doing?
Or on the flip side others walking on egg shells asking –
Are you ok?
But something to acknowledge
With out the need for anonymity.
With out shame
If it were something else
There would be hope for more
Hope for much better
than what the reality of an ongoing struggle.
That for those of us with support are able to face one day at a time with out over blown expectations.
That it will fade away – lift like a fog
There can be security in facing it as it comes acknowledging that It’s not a choice anyone would choose
Accepting what you can’t change moment by moment.

LD having a learning disability isn’t a choice
It isn’t simple
Or easy
It doesn’t discriminate
It doesn’t mean you’re weak
Or if you just tried harder
You’d over come it
Those of us with LD aren’t lazy
Having learning differences doesn’t make you less
LD doesn’t disappear
You can’t “out grow it ”
Our value doesn’t decrease with your struggle to learn
LD doesn’t mean you’re slow or stupid
LD isn’t a one size fits all diagnoses
Each one of us with LD has indivisual educational needs and ways of learning that doesn’t fall under typical, average or expected. Those of us with LD must work diligently to master expected skills others take for granted.
We do have strengths and talents determination and character
We think out side the box and strive to find what will work for us.
We aren’t looking for pity but
understanding and acceptance.
Having LD isn’t a flaw but a difference.
Differences that make up who we are and who we will become.
